06.
The kinds of institutions in member economies intended to benefit from the
results of the project. Highlight the direct benefits to the institutions,
the types of business in member economies, which will benefit from the
results of the project and what the direct benefits are.
In the Osaka Action Agenda (part II), specific area 2 and 7 in economic and technical

cooperation urged TEL to increase cooperation in infrastructure activities within APEC
and between APEC and other intermemberal institutions.

The KISTI (Rep. of Korea) proposes this project to develop the advanced
information infrastructure for the high performance computer centered cooperation
of science and technology in the Asia Pacific area

The project will be conducted on a self-funded basis of each participating economy.
Asia Pacific Grid Forum recommended by member will be configured for share of the
  direct beneficiaries of this project.

As the telecommunication technology is trending toward very high speed, the
researchers are expected to have high performance access to Grid type of information
infrastructure, which is indispensable to the cooperation for advanced science and
  technology research.

Furthermore, the project is processing on the existed test-bed (R&D networks) in Asia
Pacific region and participants of this project will be able to work on the Asia Pacific
Grid. Regardless of time and space limitations, it is possible to maximize the efficiency in
time consumption and cost. It is expected that the beneficiary encompasses a wide
range of economies and institutes including telecom operators, private companies,
universities, vocational schools and other science and technology related institutions.

07.
How the participation of the business/private sector and non-governmental
institutions has been sought or will be sought. Illustrate how the business/
private sector has been involved in the planning and delivery of the project
and whether any other APEC fora have been consulted. (*)

For the year of 2002, this project is going to be conducted between supercomputer
centers in Asia Pacific region, the researchers from public to business/private sectors
in APEC economies will be involved. The result will be provided a common interface
to utilize Grid for further advanced information infrastructure on the telecommunication
  technology.

08.
How this project will add APEC value (as to the potential benefits of
implementing projects) in the context of other work that might have been
done elsewhere in the same field. (*)

The project responds directly to the APEC priorities set from the Seoul to the Mexico
Declarations and leaders share the view that intensifying development cooperation
among APEC. It will enable to develop the Asia Pacific Grid more effectively and to attain
sustainable growth and equitable development of APEC. Cooperative research programs
will cover expanded cooperation on the Asia Pacific Grid.

Also in the Declaration of Seoul we noted the critical role of the
infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region, including telecommunications and information.
We believe that Asia Pacific Grid Implementation is a key and integral factor to the
realization of all efforts toward a capacity for sustained growth in the Asia Pacific into
  the 21st century.

This project will attract APEC member economies and offer a more advanced capability
for R&D environment. Therefore the researchers in Asia-Pacific can solve more
problems and use high performance IT resources on relevant telecommunications
  technology.

This project will contribute to other projects' activities through the provision of the
open Asia Pacific Grid access for APEC member economies, and become a milestone
  for Grid implementation.

09.
An indication of how the project might contribute to related projects or
  activities in APEC or elsewhere.

This project may play the key role of the APEC TEL DCSG activities as described above
(08). The user of this program can be researchers in Asia Pacific region, and can use
high performance tools for R&D cooperation. Therefore the enhancement of research
capability of researchers in Asia Pacific region can be first considered for the beneficiaries'
perspective. Also, the web for the Asia Pacific Grid can serve as an Asia Pacific Grid
  information clearinghouse.

This project will provide APEC member economies with advanced information
infrastructure, and assist them with the reference platform. It is necessary for carrying
out other Grid implementation in the future.

10.
Describe the deliverables of the project and demonstrate how they will meet
the needs of the targeted beneficiaries.

This project will provide several deliverables.

The first is to construct Asia-Pacific high performance computing Grid which is able
to make Asia Pacific supercomputers collaborate just like a single system.
Through this, researchers in Asia-Pacific area can gain easily computing resources needed
  for their research.

The second is to construct Access Grid to use high performance computing Grid and
Data Grid efficiently. Through this, collaboration among researchers in Asia-Pacific
  area will be enhanced.

The last is the operation of the Asia Pacific Grid Website for disseminating the
project's materials and related papers developed.
